A relative newcomer, this hybrid of Chinese kale and broccoli wasn't introduced until 1993. The tenderstem has distinctive leggy stems and smaller florets than traditional broccoli and can be cooked whole, meaning less waste. It also has a slightly sweeter flavour which some compare to asparagus for its delicate nuttiness.
