Springboard's FutureChef

SPRINGBOARD FUTURECHEF

AGE RANGE: 11-16 YEARS

We are proud to be supporting Springboard and their FutureChef programme.

Springboard FutureChef is a prominent school-based programme operating across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It aims to equip young individuals aged 11 to 16 with essential life skills and inspire them to explore careers in the hospitality industry. The programme offers a variety of resources, including interactive classroom materials and connections with industry professionals, to support students in developing culinary expertise - futureproofing the talent pipeline for hospitality and tackling youth unemployment.

The FutureChef Competition

At the heart of the programme is the annual FutureChef competition, recognised as the UK's largest school culinary contest. This multi-stage competition comprises school, local, regional, and national finals, each presenting progressively challenging tasks. Participants are encouraged to demonstrate creativity and technical skills.

Since its inception in 1999, FutureChef has engaged over 250,000 young people, many of whom have pursued successful careers in the culinary field.

Chef Brian Turner CBE, who has been involved with the competition since the beginning, is now a FutureChef Life Ambassador and has been recognised with the establishment of the Brian Turner Best Taste Prize. First introduced in 2023, this award serves as a testament to Turner’s unwavering support for the competition and acknowledges his invaluable role in nurturing culinary talent.

This award recognises outstanding flavour, creativity, and passion for great food - solely based on the taste of the dishes created. Wellocks are delighted to partner this award, with our Chef Director Leigh Myers as part of the judging panel.
