OUR COMMITMENT

Our ESG strategy is embedded through our 7 strategic priorities. We set key performance indicators across these priorities to ensure our we are achieving progress against our strategy for sustainability.  The targets have been formulated in line with the United Nations Sustainable development goals towards a more sustainable future.

As a business we have a responsibility to increase our social impact, abide by responsible and ethical business practices, empower our people and leave a positive lasting imprint on the planet. We have been working with Verco for over three years now to proactively asses our carbon footprint and make clear strategies on how to reduce this.

Whist we have only recently embarked on our sustainability journey, we are committed to create a positive contribution within the foodservice industry.

INTRODUCING WELLBERRY

OUR NEW LABELLING INITIATIVE

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we're excited to introduce a new labelling initiative on our Chef Ordering System.

This initiative evaluates three key factors—taste, seasonality, and sustainability—of the products we source. Each factor will be assessed individually and contribute to an overall score, displayed through a simple traffic light system to help chefs make more informed decisions about the products they choose for their menus.

This initiative empowers chefs to make more sustainable choices while also offering their customers fresher, more seasonal, and responsibly sourced menu options. By making sustainability more transparent and actionable, we aim to guide chefs toward products that align with their values and meet the growing demand for eco-conscious dining.

While we expect these sustainability metrics to evolve over time as priorities and industry standards shift, this system is a crucial first step in aligning our sourcing practices with the needs of both the culinary community and the planet. We're dedicated to continually improving this initiative based on industry trends, supplier feedback, and the experiences of chefs using the system.

Our goal is to not only provide chefs with better tools for decision-making but also to contribute to a broader movement towards more sustainable, responsible sourcing in the foodservice industry.

OUR COMMUNITIES

We are proud to support a range of local charities. Each employee has the opportunity to spend a paid day volunteering each year. This may be at a charity close to their heart or with one within our local area.

Charities we support

The Good Life Project

A therapeutic horticultural programme run by Pendle Leisure trust. The allotments are just a few miles from our Nelson head offices. The charity aims to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals who may be isolated, inactive or have mild to moderate mental health issues. All through the love of growing produce and cooking fresh and delicious meals with the produce.

Burnley Community Grocery

The local initiative provides essential support to the local community. Through providing extra resources for weekly food shops or through wellbeing and emotional support, the charity goes the extra mile to make sure people are cared for. Where we can we volunteer with the charity.

At Wellocks we are of the ethos that communities should be better off for having us in them. That is why we are dedicated to supporting local charities and forming strong partnerships, creating a positive impact with our work and enthusiasm for the food industry.
